NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, and Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MAHAPREIT) have formed a joint venture (JV) to develop 10,000 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy projects. The JV, named NTPC-MAHAPREIT Green Energy Limited, was established on April 8, 2025.

NGEL holds a 74 percent equity stake in the JV, while MAHAPREIT holds the remaining 26 percent. The JV will set up renewable energy parks, including Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Park (UMREPP) projects. These will include solar, wind, and hybrid power systems, with or without energy storage systems (ESS), in Maharashtra and other states.

Separately, NTPC commissioned 90 MW of wind power capacity under Phase-I of its 450 MW Inter State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Project in Bhuj, Gujarat, on April 9, 2025. This brings the commissioned wind capacity at Dayapar village to 140 MW out of the planned 150 MW for Phase-I.

The full project includes 300 MW of solar and 150 MW of wind capacity. It is being developed under Tranche-IV of Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) ISTS-connected hybrid power scheme, on a build, own, and operate (BOO) basis. NTPC won the 450 MW bid in August 2021 under SECI’s 1200 MW auction held in May 2021.
