NSE likely to waive transaction charges on electricity futures contracts

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) is likely to waive transaction charges on electricity futures contracts until December 31, 2025.

The move is expected to promote participation in the newly launched electricity derivatives segment, according to people familiar with the matter.

If implemented, the waiver will apply uniformly at the exchange level across all categories of participants, including brokers, corporates, traders, and institutions. However, the actual benefit passed on to end clients will depend on individual broker pricing policies.

Currently, other exchanges charge around Rs 170–200 per Rs 10 million worth of electricity futures trades. A waiver by NSE could make the segment more cost-effective and accessible.
