NHPC Limited declared the commercial operation date (CoD) for Unit 1, 2, and 3 of the Parbati Hydro Electric Project Stage-II on April 1, 2025.

The 800 MW (4×200 MW) project is located on the Beas River in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, about 260 km from Chandigarh. Developed at an investment of Rs 98.97 billion, Parbati-II is a run-of-the-river (RoR) project and forms part of the broader Parbati Hydroelectric Project, which consists of three stages: Stage I (750 MW), Stage II (800 MW), and Stage III (501 MW).

The Stage-II development includes an 85-meter-high concrete gravity dam and a 31.5 km-long head race tunnel (HRT). It features four 200 MW Pelton turbine units, with an expected annual generation of 3,108.66 million units (MUs) of electricity.

Power from Parbati-II will be evacuated through the Parbati-Koldam transmission line, supplying electricity to multiple states, including Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Chandigarh.
