The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has approved JSW Energy Limited’s acquisition of KSK Mahanadi for the 3,600 MW Akaltara (Nariyara) Thermal Power Project. The approval was granted on February 13, 2025.
The thermal power project, located in Nariyara, Akaltara, Janjgir-Champa district of Chhattisgarh, is partly operational with 1,800 MW in service. It was developed by KSK Mahanadi Power Company Limited (KMPCL), a special purpose vehicle (SPV). The project’s power supply is distributed to utilities in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh.
KSK Mahanadi entered the corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP) at NCLT for the first time in April 2022.
Units I, II and III of the project were commissioned in August 2013, August 2014 and January 2018 respectively.
