Author: PPD Team Date: February 26, 2026

The Ministry of Power (MoP) has extended the deadline for submission of comments and suggestions on the draft National Electricity Policy, 2026 by one month to March 19, 2026. The extension follows requests from multiple stakeholders seeking additional time to review the provisions.

The draft policy was circulated on January 20, 2026 with an initial thirty day deadline ending February 19, 2026. In an office memorandum dated February 25, 2026, MoP stated that the competent authority approved the extension.

The National Electricity Policy sets out the framework for power sector development across generation, transmission, distribution, and market reforms. Stakeholders invited to provide inputs include central and state government departments, regulatory commissions, public sector undertakings (PSUs), industry associations, and research institutions.

The revised timeline gives industry bodies, power generators, distribution companies (DISCOMs), and other stakeholders additional time to examine the policy proposals and submit detailed feedback.
