Matrix Renewables has closed a €40 million non-recourse financing agreement with UniCredit to support the development and construction of six solar photovoltaic (PV) plants across Sicily, Campania, and Lombardia.
The total capacity of the projects is 40 MW, with construction having begun in September 2024. Operations are expected to start in the first quarter of 2025.
The projects will also create full-time jobs during the construction phase. Once operational, the solar portfolio is expected to generate clean energy sufficient to power approximately 27,500 Italian households annually.
This investment highlights the growing interest in Italy’s renewable energy sector. Earlier in December 2024, Iberdrola, backed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and SACE’s Archimede Guarantee, secured a €100 million green loan to build a photovoltaic plant in Italy. This plant is expected to have a renewable energy generation capacity of 242.78 MWp, enough to meet the needs of around 154,000 Italian households.
