Mahindra has opened a new manufacturing and battery assembly facility at its Chakan plant, dedicated to producing Electric Origin SUVs. The facility, powered entirely by renewable energy, operates as a water-positive unit within Mahindra’s Chakan manufacturing hub.

This development is part of Mahindra’s Rs 45 billion investment from its Rs 160 billion FY22–FY27 investment cycle, which includes powertrain development, new product platforms, and expanded manufacturing capacity.

The facility spans 88,000 square metres and features advanced technologies, including an AI-driven body shop, an automated press shop, and a robotic paint shop. Over 500 robots and IoT-based monitoring systems ensure efficiency and traceability. Industry 4.0 technologies like autonomous mobile robots enhance manufacturing safety and reliability. The facility also aims for a 25 per cent gender diversity ratio.

The battery assembly unit employs patented processes for lean module assembly and high-performance battery production, with advanced features like hidden cell terminal welding, IP67 ingress protection, and real-time temperature monitoring. Multi-layered testing ensures durability and safety, while proprietary technologies reinforce product quality.
