The Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) division of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won significant new orders to expand and strengthen high-voltage electricity grids across the Middle East and Africa. These orders include implementing an Energy Management System to enhance national electricity networks.
One notable contract involves a consortium-led project with a leading equipment manufacturer to build Kenya’s National System Control Centre.
This transmission hub will play a key role in managing power flow, integrating diverse energy sources, and dispatching power based on merit order to maintain stability as renewable sources and regional interconnections expand. The project also includes establishing a backup energy management system at a secondary location.
In Saudi Arabia, L&T has secured turnkey contracts for constructing high-voltage transmission lines, and additional orders for gas-insulated substations (GIS) are part of Qatar’s power system expansion project.
While L&T has not disclosed the exact value, these orders are reportedly valued between Rs 50 billion and Rs 100 billion.
