L&T-Hitachi Energy consortium signs TenneT framework for 2 GW HVDC programme
Larsen & Toubro (L&T), in consortium with Hitachi Energy, has entered into a Framework Cooperation Agreement (FCA) with TenneT covering six projects in principle and future opportunities under TenneT’s 2-GW High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) programme for offshore wind integration.
The framework is intended to support large-scale integration of offshore renewable energy into European power grids. Under the programme, the consortium will continue executing two ongoing projects in the Netherlands and commence two additional projects across the Netherlands and Germany.
The four projects together represent 8 GW of transmission capacity operating at 525 kV and will transfer renewable electricity generated in the Dutch and German sectors of the North Sea to onshore grids.
Projects
The consortium will continue work on the ongoing Ijmuiden Ver Alpha and Nederwiek 1 projects in the Netherlands.
It will also begin execution of Nederwiek 3 in the Netherlands and LanWin 5 in Germany. Each forms part of TenneT’s 2-GW HVDC programme for connecting large-scale offshore wind generation to the onshore transmission network.
The FCA covers six projects in principle, along with future opportunities under the broader 2-GW programme.
Project scope
Under the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) scope, L&T will execute the offshore converter platforms and associated infrastructure. Hitachi Energy will provide its HVDC Light technology for power conversion and transmission.
L&T’s Offshore Wind business is supported by multidisciplinary engineering capabilities through its engineering centres of excellence in India and Sharjah, UAE, along with global partnerships, its supply chain ecosystem and modular fabrication facilities in Kattupalli, India.
The framework expands the consortium’s role in TenneT’s offshore transmission programme as the Netherlands and Germany develop grid infrastructure to integrate renewable generation from the North Sea.
