KP Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Botswana on 17 December 2025 to collaborate on large scale renewable energy generation, storage, and transmission infrastructure. The proposed investment is estimated at $4 billion (Rs 36,000 crore) and is aligned with Botswana’s target of becoming a net zero country by 2030 and scaling renewable energy capacity to nearly 5 GW.

The MoU was signed between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and KP Group, which includes KPI Green Energy Limited, KP Energy Limited, and KP Green Engineering Limited. The agreement sets out a cooperation framework for planning, development, and implementation of renewable energy projects and related transmission infrastructure. The stated objectives include improving energy security and positioning Botswana as a regional exporter of clean power.

Under the agreement, KP Group will lead technical and commercial activities across the project lifecycle. This includes feasibility assessments, project design, financing arrangements, construction, and long term operation and maintenance. The scope also covers the development and upgradation of high voltage transmission lines within Botswana, along with strengthening cross border interconnections to support regional power flows.

The MoU also includes a focus on local capacity building. KP Group has committed to funding 30 scholarships every year for citizens of Botswana in areas such as renewable energy, engineering, and sustainability, with the aim of supporting skill development and knowledge transfer.

Commenting on the development, the Hon. Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, Minister of Minerals and Energy, said the agreement represents a step forward in Botswana’s transition towards a sustainable energy system. Dr. Faruk G. Patel, Founding Promoter and Chairman of KP Group, said the partnership reflects a shared intent to develop Botswana’s solar and wind resources and generate long term economic value.
