India-made 2.6 MWh BESS container from Jupiter Wagons reaches US market

Jupiter Wagons exports a 2.6 MWh BESS container to the US. The shipment marks growth in its energy storage business.

Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL) has announced the export of a fully integrated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) container to the United States through its energy business, JEM Energy. According to a LinkedIn post by Bharath Sood, Chief Operating Officer of JWL, the 2.6 MWh BESS container was designed, manufactured and integrated entirely in-house and supplied to a leading Japanese multinational company.

The company stated that the BESS container was manufactured using in-house cell-to-pack integration at its production facilities in Bengaluru and Indore. According to the post, the product is intended for the commercial and industrial (C&I) segment as an alternative to diesel generator (DG) sets.

JWL said it has established dedicated production lines for BESS container manufacturing and integration and claimed to have achieved the highest level of localisation for BESS manufacturing in India. The company also stated that it has an annual manufacturing capacity of 5,500 units and operates an integrated research, development and testing centre.

According to the company, it has also designed and manufactured a 5.1 MWh BESS container, which has been delivered to a leading Indian conglomerate. It further stated that JEM Energy has deployed 500 kV, 724 kV, 1.2 MWh and 2.6 MWh BESS systems across India and is currently developing a 1 MWh BESS container in a 10-foot configuration.
