JSW, Tata Power, Avaada, Juniper win MSEDCL’s 1,650 MW wind-solar auction

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) has selected JSW Neo Energy, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), Avaada Energy, and Juniper Green Energy as the winners of its 1,650 MW wind-solar hybrid auction. These companies will supply power on a long-term basis from grid-connected intrastate projects.

JSW Neo secured 600 MW, including 400 MW under the greenshoe option, while Tata Power won 400 MW, with 200 MW under the greenshoe option. Avaada Energy was awarded 500 MW (13 MW plus 487 MW under the greenshoe), and Juniper Green secured 150 MW, half of it under the greenshoe option. All bids were secured at a tariff of Rs 3.60 per kWh. Initially floated for 1,150 MW in July 2024, the capacity was later increased to 1,650 MW under the greenshoe option.

In October 2024, MSEDCL also signed an energy storage facility agreement with JSW Energy PSP Two Limited for a 1,500 MW/12,000 MWh pumped hydro energy storage project. Additionally, in September 2024, TPREL secured a letter of award for developing a 400 MW wind-solar hybrid project in Maharashtra.
