JSW Energy unit secures Rs 444 crore BESS order from Bondada Renewable

JSW Energy PSP Eleven Limited (JEPEL), a step-down wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited, has secured orders worth Rs 443.74 crore from Bondada Renewable Energy Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bondada Engineering Limited, for the supply of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Power Conversion Systems (PCS).

According to a regulatory filing by JSW Energy, the order covers 200 MW/400 MWh of BESS capacity.

JEPEL will supply the BESS and PCS solutions from its battery assembly facility in Pune, which has an annual manufacturing capacity of 5 GWh. The order strengthens JSW Energy’s presence in the battery energy storage segment as the company expands its capabilities across the energy storage value chain.

Battery Energy Storage Systems are playing an increasingly important role in India’s power sector by providing operational flexibility to the grid. They support grid stability, enable peak load management, facilitate higher integration of renewable energy and help deliver round-the-clock power supply.

The latest order reflects the growing deployment of utility-scale battery storage as renewable energy capacity continues to expand across the country.

Generation and storage portfolio

JSW Energy currently has a total locked-in generation capacity of 32.1 GW. This includes 14.53 GW of operational capacity, 13.0 GW under construction across thermal, hydro and renewable energy projects, and a development pipeline of 4.6 GW.

The company also has a locked-in energy storage portfolio of 29.6 GWh, comprising 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro energy storage and 3.2 GWh of battery energy storage systems.

JSW Energy has set a target of achieving 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030. The company has also committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
