The National Committee on Transmission (NCT) recently approved an interstate transmission system (ISTS) to integrate 4.5 GW of renewable energy from the Anantapur-II Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) in Andhra Pradesh. The project, estimated at Rs 46.79 billion, will facilitate energy evacuation through infrastructure enhancements.
The project will be implemented under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route, with PFC Consulting Ltd (PFCCL) serving as the bid process coordinator. Named “Transmission System for Integration of Anantapur-II REZ – Phase-I (for 4.5 GW),” the project is expected to be completed within 24 months from the transfer of the special purpose vehicle (SPV) to the successful developer. As the cost exceeds Rs 5 billion, clearance from the Union power ministry is required before formal bidding begins.
The scheme is part of broader plans to create transmission infrastructure for 51 GW of renewable energy potential from Andhra Pradesh. The project scope includes establishing the Ananthapuram-II Pooling Station near Kurnool, connected to the Davanagere and Cuddapah substations by 765kV double-circuit lines.
