Indonesia is set to expand the Dieng Geothermal Power Plant in Wonosobo, Central Java, by an additional 110 MW as part of a proposed project backed by the Asian Development Bank.
The expansion will support PT Geo Dipa Energi, the state-owned operator of the plant, in scaling up geothermal electricity output.
The Dieng facility, also known as Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Uap Dieng, is currently operational and has a planned total capacity of 440 MW.
The project also aims to strengthen the institutional and financial capacity of Geo Dipa Energi and launch a pilot for direct geothermal use.
Indonesia has committed to net-zero emissions by 2060 or earlier and is targeting a 29 to 43 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions below business-as-usual levels under its updated climate pledge.
