India’s solar power capacity has reached 125 GW, making it the third-largest solar energy producer globally, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said speaking at the curtain raiser of the 8th International Solar Alliance (ISA).
Joshi said India’s achievement demonstrates how strong national goals can drive tangible local change. He added that the ISA, co-founded by India and France, has evolved into a major international platform for promoting solar energy, with membership now standing at 124 countries.
The minister said the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has already helped over 20 lakh households adopt rooftop solar systems, supporting the broader goal of making clean energy accessible and affordable.
The ISA aims to mobilize USD 1 trillion in solar investments by 2030 while reducing technology and financing costs. According to Joshi, India’s growing solar footprint aligns with this vision and continues to strengthen the country’s leadership in the global renewable energy transition.
