India and Sri Lanka have signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to strengthen bilateral energy cooperation, with a focus on renewable energy and cross-border electricity trade.
One MoU covers the joint development of a 120 MW solar power project in Sampur, located in Sri Lanka’s Trincomalee district. The project aims to enhance clean energy generation in the region.
Another MoU outlines plans for a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) interconnection between the two countries. The proposed transmission link will enable the import and export of electricity, supporting grid stability and energy trade between India and Sri Lanka.
A third MoU focuses on the supply and installation of rooftop solar systems at 500 religious institutions across Sri Lanka. The initiative is intended to promote distributed renewable energy and reduce electricity costs for public and community facilities.
