Author: PPD Team Date: July 17, 2025

Hitachi Energy India has secured an order from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) to supply 30 single-phase 765 kV, 500 MVA transformers.

According to the company’s press release, the transformers will be manufactured at Hitachi Energy’s facility in Maneja, Vadodara, Gujarat.

India’s transformer demand has risen by 15 percent annually over the past two years. The 765 kV transformers enable long-distance, high-volume power transfer with reduced transmission losses, lower land use, and improved grid security. The 30 units together will have the capacity to support the equivalent of power consumed by 30 million Indian households.

Managing Director and CEO of Hitachi Energy India, Mr. N Venu, said this shift allows manufacturers to plan production capacity, streamline supply chains, and meet delivery targets. He added that Hitachi Energy brings both global technology and local manufacturing expertise to national grid projects.

Separately, the release also noted that Hitachi Energy recently tested the world’s first natural ester-filled oil transformer at 765 kV / 400 kV, 250 MVA. The innovation offers a biodegradable, fire-safe alternative to conventional oils, with potential application in ultra-high-voltage alternating current (UHVAC) networks.
