A consortium of Hitachi Energy India Ltd and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) for the Rajasthan high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission project.

The project involves setting up two HVDC line-commutated converter (LCC) terminal stations of 6,000 MW each at Bhadla and Fatehpur. Additionally, an 800 kV HVDC LCC terminal station (4X1,500 MW) will be established to ensure efficient energy evacuation.

The scope of work includes the supply and installation of converter transformers, AC/DC control and protection systems, gas-insulated high-voltage switchgear, thyristor valves, and 765 kV/400 kV substations, along with auxiliary systems.

While the formal contract agreement is yet to be signed, the project is expected to be completed by 2030. The contract value has not yet been disclosed.

This marks the first HVDC project won by a private sector entity under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework. AESL had acquired Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Ltd through this route.

This is the second major HVDC mandate for the Hitachi Energy India-BHEL consortium. In November 2024, the consortium won a similar contract from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) under “Khavda V-A Power Transmission Ltd,” a TBCB subsidiary of PGCIL.
