Grenergy, a Spanish clean energy producer, has secured capacity contracts for five standalone energy storage projects in Poland with a combined capacity of 2.1 gigawatt-hours (GWh). The contracts were awarded through an auction conducted by Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE), Poland’s electricity system operator.
The company said the awards represent more than 11% of the total storage capacity offered in the auction. The five projects, named Fred, George, Lucius, Hagrid and Harry, will have a combined power capacity of 534 MW and will provide reserve capacity to the Polish grid during periods of low availability. Services are scheduled to commence in January 2030.
Under the auction terms, the projects will receive a fixed annual payment of 465.02 zlotys per kilowatt for 17 years, translating into a minimum economic allocation exceeding €132 million. In addition, Grenergy has received 34 million zlotys in grants from the Polish Government for four smaller standalone storage projects with a combined capacity of 136 megawatt-hours, which are expected to be operational by 2028. The grants are supported under the European Union Modernisation Fund.
Grenergy is also advancing its Greenbox platform, a standalone energy storage platform in Europe with a pipeline of 31 GWh across Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, Spain and the UK. Founded in 2007, the company operates across Europe, North America and Latin America, with more than 75 GWh of storage capacity and 12 GW of solar projects under development.
