Green Nation unveils plans for 750 MW Whitestone Solar Farm in the UK

Green Nation has announced plans for the Whitestone Solar Farm, a large-scale solar and energy storage project located between Rotherham and Doncaster in South Yorkshire.

The facility, currently in the preliminary development phase, aims to contribute up to 750 MW to the UK’s National Grid. It also includes a battery energy storage system, with its capacity yet to be confirmed.

Recognized as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project due to its size and potential impact, the Whitestone Solar Farm will undergo public consultations starting November 18, 2024, and continuing until January 17, 2025.

Following two rounds of consultations, Green Nation plans to submit a development consent order (DCO) application to the UK government in early 2026, with a decision from UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband anticipated by mid-2027.

If approved, construction is expected to commence in late 2027, with the grid connection targeted for 2029. In addition to energy generation and storage, the project includes plans for biodiversity enhancements to benefit the local environment.

Green Nation founder and CEO Jonathan Thompson expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its potential to contribute significantly to the UK’s renewable energy targets and inviting public engagement in the consultation process.
