GE Vernova wins contract for 600 MW hydrogen-capable power plant in Singapore
GE Vernova has secured a contract to supply its 9HA.01 gas turbine for a new 600 MW hydrogen-capable power plant at the Pulau Seraya power station on Jurong Island, Singapore.
The project, led by YTL PowerSeraya Group, is set to begin operations by 2027. Initially running on natural gas, the plant will be able to blend up to 50% hydrogen, with a future goal of transitioning to 100% hydrogen fuel to support global decarbonization goals.
A consortium comprising GE Vernova, POWERCHINA, and SEPCO III will handle the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) for the facility. The contract also includes the provision of an STF-A650 steam turbine, a W88 generator, and a triple-pressure heat recovery steam generator with reheating capabilities. GE’s 9HA.01 turbine, featuring the advanced DLN2.6e combustion system from the US Department of Energy’s high hydrogen turbine program, is designed to burn high volumes of hydrogen without diluents.
GE Vernova Asia’s gas power president and CEO Ramesh Singaram emphasized the role of hydrogen-blended natural gas in accelerating decarbonization, noting the efficiency of GE’s H-Class technology in achieving lower carbon emissions.
Further strengthening its regional presence, GE Vernova has launched the Global Repair Service Solution (GRSS) centre in Singapore. This facility, the first of its kind outside the US, serves as a global hub for HA turbine repairs and is one of only four heavy-duty rotor service centres worldwide. Additionally, it functions as a key repair centre for F-class turbine blades and aero-derivative repairs, including combustor DVM coating services.
In a separate development, GE Vernova recently won a contract from Kansai Electric Power Company to supply three 7HA.03 gas turbines for the modernization of Japan’s Nanko power station in Osaka.
