GameChange Solar to expand transformer manufacturing six fold in India

GameChange Solar will scale its transformer manufacturing capacity in India by about six times through its new subsidiary, GameChange BOS. The expansion targets growing global demand and a stronger position in the domestic market.
The company recently opened its first medium voltage transformer plant in Taloja, Maharashtra. The greenfield facility can produce 1,800 to 2,000 units a year and is described as the largest in its category. Executive Chairman Andrew Worden said a second, larger factory is planned and a third site is under evaluation.
With all planned plants online, total output will rise six fold. Production will serve export markets and part of India’s needs. Worden expects GameChange BOS to generate between one quarter and one third of the company’s overall revenue. He did not reveal investment figures.
GameChange entered the transformer business after customers identified a clear supply gap. The company created GameChange BOS in response to that feedback.
The expansion supports the company’s plan to build high value manufacturing in India while using its global tracker business to lower clean energy costs. Founded in 2012, GameChange Solar shifted to solar trackers in 2015 and has deployed more than 50 GW worldwide.
GameChange set up its India operations five years ago to support U.S. projects. India has since become a major market, and U.S. exports remain strong despite a 50 per cent tariff. Worden said India’s manufacturing capability continues to improve.
