Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone, initiated construction, and dedicated multiple development projects worth over Rs 337 billion in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. The projects focus on electrification, rail connectivity, coal and power sectors, solar energy, and gas infrastructure.
He highlighted that electricity is now reaching previously underserved regions, improving infrastructure and quality of life. Chhattisgarh has also achieved full electrification of its rail network. Around Rs 400 billion worth of railway projects are ongoing, with Rs 70 billion allocated in this year’s budget to enhance connectivity and transportation efficiency.
Despite its vast coal reserves, Chhattisgarh previously faced electricity shortages due to neglected power plants. The government is now developing new plants to ensure a stable electricity supply, leveraging local resources for energy security.
To promote renewable energy, the government has introduced the PM Suryagarh Muft Bijli Scheme, aimed at eliminating electricity bills and allowing households to generate income from solar energy. Each household will receive Rs 78,000 in assistance for solar panel installation, and over two lakh families in Chhattisgarh have already registered for the scheme.
Gas infrastructure is also being expanded to reduce dependency on truck transportation of petroleum products. This initiative will lower costs for consumers, facilitate the use of CNG vehicles, and provide piped cooking gas to over 200,000 homes. The availability of gas infrastructure will support the establishment of new industries, creating employment opportunities.
