A total of five firms have been shortlisted as technically qualified for the selection of transmission service providers (TSP) through the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis for the Transmission System for Integration of Kurnool-IV Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) – Phase-I (4.5 GW).

The shortlisted firms are Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), Resonia Limited (formerly Sterlite Grid 32 Limited), Tata Power Company Limited (TPCL), Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL), and Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL). REC Power Distribution Company Limited (REC PDCL) invited Request for Proposal (RFP) bids for the project in November 2024.

REC PDCL has been designated as the project’s bid process coordinator (BPC).

The key component is the Kurnool-IV Pooling Station (PS) with a capacity of 4×1500 MVA, 765/400kV, and 4×500 MVA, 400/220kV. The existing 765/400kV Chilakaluripet substation will also be upgraded. The Kurnool-IV PS will be connected to other substations like Kurnool-III PS, Bidar, and Chilakaluripet via 1,000 ckm of transmission lines.

This project is part of Andhra Pradesh’s plan to integrate 51 GW of renewable energy into the grid, with 23 GW identified for Kurnool (15 GW solar and 8 GW wind). With an estimated cost of Rs 5.55 billion, the project is expected to be completed within 24 months from the SPV transfer date.
