Engie signs 90 MW PPA with Google for Chillingham solar project in Texas

Engie North America has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google to supply renewable energy from its 200 MW Chillingham solar project in Bell County, Texas. This 90 MW PPA will support Google’s 24/7 carbon-free energy goal by powering its Texas operations with clean energy.

The agreement, facilitated by LevelTen Energy’s LEAP program, aims to streamline clean energy PPA sourcing for corporate buyers like Google. Expected to come online in late 2024, the Chillingham project is Engie’s largest solar initiative in the U.S., contributing to Engie’s 8 GW renewable portfolio in North America, which includes solar, wind, and battery storage assets.

The Chillingham project is anticipated to generate $72 million in tax revenue over its lifespan, with $53 million allocated to local school districts. The construction phase has created over 300 local jobs, underscoring Engie’s community impact in Bell County.

Engie North America’s chief renewables officer, Dave Carroll, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting Google’s net-zero goals, adding that Engie’s track record in renewables has positioned it as a key player in the energy transition.
