Eco Wave Power, in collaboration with AltaSea and Shell Marine Renewable Energy, has launched the first onshore wave energy project in the United States at the Port of Los Angeles. The project is currently in the demonstration phase and is intended to pave the way for future commercial-scale operations.
The site features floaters designed to capture the motion of ocean waves and convert it into clean electricity. The initiative aims to demonstrate the technical viability of wave energy and its potential contribution to sustainable and reliable power generation.
Eco Wave Power founder and CEO Inna Braverman said that new projects are being prepared in Taiwan, India, and Portugal.
The launch comes as California strengthens its climate policy framework. Senate Bill 605, which mandates a wave energy roadmap, reflects the state’s commitment to advancing alternative energy sources. At the federal level, support is also increasing through the Marine Energy Technologies Acceleration Act, a $1 billion initiative to expand marine energy across the country.
