Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) signed two purchase power agreements (PPAs) with SJVN Limited on April 29, 2025, to procure hydro power from the Sunni Dam and Luhri Stage I projects in Himachal Pradesh.
The Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project is a run-of-river scheme on the Satluj River near Khaira village in Shimla and Mandi districts. It will have six units totaling 382 MW (5 x 73 MW + 1 x 17 MW) and is being developed at a cost of Rs 30 billion.
The Luhri Hydro Electric Project Stage I involves an 86 m high concrete gravity dam near Nirath village across the Satluj River. It will have an installed capacity of 210 MW and cost Rs 18.10 billion.
These agreements are part of DVC’s plan to diversify its energy mix and meet future green energy obligations through hydro and solar sources. The PPAs will take effect once the projects are commissioned.
DVC has recently signed five similar agreements with NHPC. It currently supplies about 43 billion units of power annually, mainly to high-tension industrial consumers.
