Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) has announced the DVC Command Area Power Supply Modernization Project to ensure round-the-clock (RTC) quality power and reduce aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses.

The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 15 billion, is expected to be completed in 18 months.

Covering 24,235 sq km in West Bengal and Jharkhand, the project upgrades DVC’s distribution network with a distribution management system (DMS), outage management system (OMS), customer relation management (CRM), metering data management, GIS mapping, ring main units (RMU), and fibre optic-based metering.

DVC’s network primarily serves industries. The modernization includes unmanned E-houses with GIS-based 33 kV panels, modular battery chargers, and substation automation. The first E-house was commissioned in Dhanbad on January 3, 2025, with more in BIADA, Deoli, Giridih, Hazaribagh, and Sindri by March 2025.

Two advanced control centres in Kalyaneshwari, West Bengal, and Koderama, Jharkhand, will manage the system with 24×7 customer support. Consumers can handle connections and billing via a mobile app, eliminating physical interaction.

DVC has partnered with Tata Consulting Engineers, Siemens Columbia, Siemens India, Transafe, and Techno Electric to improve reliability and efficiency.

Simultaneously, DVC is expected to commence construction of the 1,600 MW Chandrapura Ultra Supercritical Power Project soon.
