The Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) has approved a restructuring plan for the boards of NTPC subsidiaries THDC India Ltd (THDCIL) and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO), according to a communication reviewed by Mint. The move is part of a broader strategy to streamline operations as India expands its hydropower capacity along its eastern and northwestern borders.
The DPE has agreed to redesignate the managing director position and appoint a non-executive chairperson for both companies. Once the changes are implemented, the chairman and managing director of NTPC Ltd will serve as non-executive chairman of THDCIL and NEEPCO, without operational control.
Future appointments of managing directors at both hydropower firms will follow DPE guidelines and be processed through the Public Enterprises Selection Board and the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, under the Union Ministry of Finance.
