CESC Limited has launched a Rs 2.26 billion infrastructure upgrade project to improve the electricity supply in Kodagu district, Karnataka. The focus is on addressing long-standing power reliability issues, especially in forested and hilly areas.
The project involves repairs to 536 km of distribution lines and system strengthening across five subdivisions: Madikeri, Kushalnagar, Somwarpet, Gonikoppa, and Virajpet. Area-wise allocations are as follows: Madikeri (Rs 0.49 billion), Kushalnagar (Rs 0.40 billion), Somwarpet (Rs 0.40 billion), Gonikoppa (Rs 0.56 billion), and Virajpet (Rs 0.41 billion). Together, Virajpet and Madikeri constituencies have received Rs 1.20 billion and Rs 1.06 billion, respectively.
The upgrade includes the installation of covered conductors, transformers, and other system components to reduce voltage fluctuations and outages. Remote areas such as Shanthalli, Bhagamandala, and Ammatthi are among the priority locations.
Work is expected to be completed by January–February 2026.
