Centre, Himachal discuss 4,300 MW pump storage projects
Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, held a meeting in Shimla to review Himachal Pradesh’s urban development initiatives and power sector advancements.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Public Works & Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh, and senior state and central government officials attended the meeting, focusing on the state’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and hydroelectric projects.
During the discussions, potential collaboration between Himachal Pradesh and the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) on two pump storage projects (PSPs) was highlighted. The projects include a 1,500 MW PSP in Una district’s Raipur and a 2,800 MW PSP in Kangra district’s Garia. Chief Minister Sukhu expressed gratitude for the Union Minister’s visit, raising key concerns regarding free power provisions in hydroelectric projects.
Union Minister Manohar Lal underscored the role of RDSS in enhancing power distribution and advised the state to expedite projects aimed at improving electrification, especially in remote and border areas. Emphasizing Himachal Pradesh’s vast hydropower potential, he encouraged collaboration between the Centre and the state to resolve outstanding issues. He assured ongoing support from the central government for Himachal Pradesh’s development.
The meeting included officials from Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. (SJVNL), BBMB, Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL), and representatives from the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs and Ministry of Power.
