Cadiz has partnered with RIC Energy to build a green hydrogen facility at Cadiz Ranch in California’s Mojave Desert, where Cadiz will supply land and water resources to support RIC Energy’s solar-powered hydrogen production. The facility aims to generate 100% green hydrogen, targeting distribution across Southern California for zero-emission vehicles and power generation.
The project plans to operate entirely off-grid, with photovoltaic (PV) solar installations covering up to 3,000 acres of Cadiz Ranch land. At full capacity, the facility is expected to produce up to 50,000 kg of hydrogen daily, providing sustainable energy for California’s zero-emission transportation and transitioning industries. It will include on-site electricity storage and hydrogen compression and liquefaction facilities for efficient rail and road transport.
With potential future pipeline connections to Los Angeles, the project will also allow Cadiz to use up to 500 acre-feet of water annually and power its water and groundwater banking operations through the facility’s green hydrogen and solar energy.

The partnership focuses on commercial, industrial and renewable integrated applications. The two companies plan to jointly develop and install systems intended to support peak load management. The systems will be designed to improve the use of solar power through advanced storage integration…
Author: PPD Team Date: November 7, 2024 IREL (India) Limited, a CPSU under India’s Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), has partnered with Kazakhstan’s Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium and Magnesium Plant JSC (UKTMP) to establish IREUK Titanium Limited, a joint venture for producing titanium slag in Odisha, India. IREUK Titanium Limited will leverage IREL’s surplus ilmenite production in Odisha, with UKTMP providing the technology for titanium slag production, converting low-grade ilmenite into high-grade titanium feedstock. The collaboration benefits…
Author: PPD Team Date: April 7, 2025 The power ministry has relaxed siting norms for load-serving substations under interstate transmission system (ISTS) schemes built through the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route. The revised norms apply to new substations—such as switching stations or HVDC terminals—developed by transmission service providers (TSPs). The change follows industry representations and is now reflected in the amended standard bidding documents (SBD), including the request for proposal (RfP) and transmission service agreement…
Author: PPD Team Date: January 24, 2025 Solar power surpassed coal in the European Union’s (EU) electricity mix for the first time in 2024, according to energy think tank Ember. Solar accounted for 11% of the EU’s electricity mix, up from 9.3% in 2023, while coal fell below 10%, the lowest since Ember began tracking in 2011. Gas-fired power dropped to 15.7% from 16.9% in 2023. Wind power remained steady at 17.4%, though new wind…

Author: PPD Team Date: October 3, 2025 The Ministry of Power (MoP) has notified a revised renewable consumption obligation (RCO) framework under the Electricity (Amendment) Rules, 2025. The new rules unify state-level renewable purchase obligations (RPOs) under a single national compliance mechanism framed through the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. The framework applies to distribution licensees, open access consumers, and captive users. It replaces the earlier structure issued in October 2023, while retaining the national RCO…
