Bhartiya Nabhikiya Vidyut Nigam Limited (BHAVINI) plans to begin commercial operations of the 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at the Madras Atomic Power Station in Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu, by the end of 2025.
The Kalpakkam facility currently has two operational 220 MW Pressurised Heavy-Water Reactors (Units 1 and 2), a 500 MW PFBR (Unit 3) under construction, and two planned 600 MW Fast Breeder Reactors (Units 4 and 5).
