Avantus sells Catclaw Solar and Energy Storage Project to DESRI

Avantus has announced the sale of its Catclaw Solar and Energy Storage Project to D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI). Situated in Buckeye, Arizona, the Catclaw project includes up to 225 MWac of solar power and 250 MW/1,000 MWh of energy storage, accompanied by a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Arizona Public Service (APS).

Avantus spearheaded the initial development, handling interconnection, site acquisition, permitting, commercial negotiations with APS, and securing key equipment like batteries.

Catclaw marks the fourth project sold by Avantus to DESRI, with an operational target of 2026. This project is set to enhance Arizona’s renewable energy output and strengthen regional energy storage capabilities.

Earlier in 2024, Avantus, in collaboration with Toyota Tsusho America (TAI), initiated construction of the Norton Solar Project, a 159 MWdc/125 MWac facility in Runnels County, Texas. This project, following its sale to TAI in November 2023, underscores Avantus’s continued commitment to advancing solar infrastructure.
