The Chief Minister of Assam, Mr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, inaugurated the 70 MW Dhubri Solar Power Project developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) on January 15, 2026. The project marks the first large-scale solar power facility to become operational in the state.
The inauguration event was attended by Assam Power Minister Mr. Prasanta Phukan, SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Mr. Bhupendra Gupta, along with senior officials from the Assam government and SJVN. Mr. Gupta highlighted the support received from both the central and state governments and noted the project’s contribution to expanding renewable energy capacity and strengthening national energy security.
The project has been developed on 330 acres of land leased from the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL). It was awarded to SGEL through a competitive bidding process in February 2023 at a tariff of Rs 3.92 per unit. The plant was constructed at an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) cost of Rs 367.44 crore and is expected to generate 141.13 million units of electricity in its first year of operation.
Over an operational life of 25 years, the Dhubri solar project is projected to generate around 3,230 million units of electricity. It is also expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 158,270 tonnes during this period.
This is SGEL’s first operational power project in the North-Eastern Region of India. The foundation stone for the project was laid virtually by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi in March 2024.
