The Cabinet of Arunachal Pradesh has approved the formation of NEEPCO Arunachal Hydro Power Corporation, a joint venture between the Government of Arunachal Pradesh (GoAP) and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO). The JV will implement five hydro electric projects (HEPs) with a combined capacity of 2,626 MW in the state.

The approved projects are:

  • 1,000 MW Naying Hydro Electric Project

  • 700 MW Tato-II Hydro Electric Project

  • 500 MW Hirong Hydro Electric Power Project

  • 240 MW Heo Hydro Electric Project

  • 186 MW Tato-I Hydro Electric Project

The decision was taken on May 13, 2025, to accelerate hydropower development in Arunachal Pradesh.

In parallel, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has issued two Expressions of Interest (EOIs) to support the appraisal of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for HEPs and Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs). The move aims to streamline approvals and ensure faster commissioning.

The first EOI invites experienced geological experts to evaluate geological chapters of DPRs, conduct site visits, and provide recommendations. The second EOI calls for participation from Central Design Organizations of States (CDSOs) to assess civil designs, including dam structures, water conductor systems, and powerhouses.

Experts shall follow Indian and global standards such as USBR (U.S. Bureau of Reclamation) guidelines and ICOLD (International Commission on Large Dams) recommendations. Deliverables include full technical reports, executive summaries, and insights based on international best practices.

The deadline for EOI submissions is June 10, 2025.
