The Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (APTRANSCO) has outlined plans to complete 55 major transmission projects with a total investment of Rs 9,319.30 crore. The programme will strengthen the state’s power transmission network and ensuring reliable electricity supply across Andhra Pradesh.

According to G Surya Sai Praveenchand, Joint Managing Director of the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd (APTRANSCO), the projects will add 8,853 MVA of transformation capacity and 1,558 circuit kilometers of transmission lines. The scope includes new 400 KV, 220 KV and 132 KV substations at locations such as Kakinada SEZ, Achutapuram, Gudivada and Ainavalli. The initiatives form part of the state government’s push to provide round the clock quality power to all categories of consumers.

APTRANSCO currently operates 380 substations and 1,030 power transformers with an aggregate capacity of 71,049 MVA. Its transmission network extends over more than 33,000 circuit kilometers of high voltage lines across the state.

To further improve grid reliability and manage peak demand, APTRANSCO is also implementing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in two phases. The planned storage capacity totals 1,500 MW or 3,000 MWh and is intended to support grid stability as renewable energy penetration increases.
