Adani Power Limited (APL) is among four firms competing for the 2,400 MW Pirpainti Thermal Power Project in Bhagalpur district, Bihar. The other companies that have expressed interest are JSW Energy Limited (JSWEL), Torrent Power Limited, and Lalitpur Power Generation Company Limited (LPGCL).

Originally proposed with a capacity of 1,320 MW (2 × 660 MW), the project has now been revised to 2,400 MW, comprising three units of 800 MW each. The estimated project cost is Rs 214 billion.

The Bihar government is selecting the developer through a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process. The project will be executed on a design, build, finance, own, and operate (DBFOO) basis.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the earlier version of the project was signed in February 2014, but the plan was later shelved. Since then, the state government has acquired 413.02 hectares of land and has initiated the process of coal block allocation for the revised project.
