Andritz will modernise Mozambique’s Cahora Bassa hydropower plant under a contract from Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB). The upgrade will increase turbine capacity to 433 MW per unit and raise total generation by over 4 per cent.
The 2,075 MW plant, commissioned in 1975, supplies over half of Mozambique’s electricity and exports to neighbouring countries.
The REABSUL II programme includes five new 480 MVA generators, Francis turbine runners, control systems and hydromechanical components. Installation will be phased to keep the plant operational. The work will be coordinated with HCB’s substation upgrade at Songo.
