The Tanzanian government is negotiating with the Adani Group for a $900 million public-private partnership to build high-voltage power lines. This project follows the group’s earlier success in securing a 30-year concession to operate the main container terminal at the port of Dar es Salaam. The investment is part of Tanzania’s broader push for infrastructural development and foreign investments.
In parallel, Tanzania is also in discussions with UK firm Gridworks Development Partners for a $300 million power-line project. Adani’s involvement in Tanzania’s power sector is seen as key to improving energy accessibility, supporting industrial growth, and positioning the country as a regional hub for trade.
Adani’s vision for East Africa includes ongoing discussions with Kenya to build high-voltage power lines worth $736 million. Tanzania’s natural resources, including natural gas and rare earth elements, further enhance the attractiveness of the region for Adani’s expanding footprint in East Africa.
