Adani Energy wins Rs 8,500 crore Vizag transmission project
Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) has secured an inter-state transmission project in Andhra Pradesh with an estimated value of Rs 8,500 crore under the Government of India’s Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework. The project will create transmission infrastructure to meet an estimated 4,500 MW of demand from proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia facilities in the Vizag region, while also supporting rising electricity requirements in the Pendurthi-Vizag area.
The project, titled “Transmission System for Proposed Green Hydrogen / Green Ammonia Projects in Vizag Area, Andhra Pradesh (Phase-I),” is scheduled for completion within 30 months. Following the award, AESL’s transmission order book stands at over Rs 80,000 crore.
Project scope
The transmission system will include a 4×1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) at Pendurthi (Vizag) and a 3×1,500 MVA, 765/400 kV substation at Khammam-II.
Overall, AESL will add 1,582 ckm of transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity through the project. Once added, the company’s transmission network will expand to 29,531 ckm, while its transformation capacity will reach 1,33,675 MVA.
The infrastructure is intended primarily to integrate and supply power to proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Vizag area. It will also strengthen the grid serving Pendurthi-Vizag, where new data centre and digital infrastructure investments are driving additional power requirements.

Project award
The project will be implemented through Vizag Power Transmission Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) incorporated on February 16, 2026, by REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited.
RECPDCL acted as the Bid Process Coordinator for the TBCB process. The bidding followed a Gazette Notification issued by the Ministry of Power on December 26, 2025, allocating the inter-state transmission project.
Vizag demand
The transmission project comes as the Vizag region develops into a larger centre for energy-intensive industrial and digital infrastructure. Proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia facilities are expected to create substantial new electricity demand, alongside large-scale Artificial Intelligence (AI) and hyperscale data centre developments.
Planned subsea connectivity and associated clean energy and industrial infrastructure are also contributing to the region’s emerging digital ecosystem. The new transmission capacity is expected to support power availability and grid stability as these developments progress.
