Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) officially acquired Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Ltd from REC Power Development & Consultancy Ltd (RECPDCL) on January 20, 2025.
AESL emerged as the winning bidder with an annual transmission charge of Rs 35,570 million, outbidding three other contenders: Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL), Sterlite Power, and IndiGrid.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 227 billion, involves setting up two 6,000 MW HVDC terminal stations at Bhadla (Rajasthan) and Fatehpur (Uttar Pradesh). A ±800kV HVDC line, running 955 km, will connect these terminals. The implementation is expected to be completed by July 20, 2029.
This project is part of the ISTS-TBCB scheme, titled “Transmission system for evacuation of power from REZ in Rajasthan (20 GW) under Phase III (Part I).”
AESL’s win adds to its growing portfolio, having acquired five ISTS-TBCB schemes in FY25. With this acquisition, AESL’s tariff share in TBCB projects rises to around 32%, with PGCIL leading at 50%.
This is AESL’s third HVDC project, following the Mundra–Mahendragarh project and the under-implementation Aarey-Kudus Project by its subsidiary Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd.
