India’s solar PV module manufacturing capacity has skyrocketed from 2.3 GW to 67 GW over the past decade, largely due to initiatives under the “Make In India” program. Currently, 48 GW of integrated solar PV manufacturing projects are underway, supported by the Rs 240 billion Solar PLI scheme.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi emphasized the government’s commitment to establishing India as a global clean energy leader, highlighting the comprehensive support provided through schemes like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) and Viability Gap Funding (VGF). Key policies, including basic customs duties and domestic content requirements, are also boosting domestic manufacturing.

India’s solar PV production capacity has seen rapid growth, jumping from 8 GW in 2021 to 67 GW in just 3.5 years. The ongoing projects under the Solar PLI scheme are expected to attract Rs 1.1 trillion in investments and generate 45,000 jobs.
