MNRE mandates standard branding for PM Surya Ghar rooftop solar systems

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued detailed guidelines introducing a standardised branding framework for rooftop solar systems installed under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), making it mandatory for vendors to display the scheme’s logo on key system components.

The guidelines, issued on July 30, 2026, require the PMSG: MBY logo to be affixed on solar PV modules, solar inverters and AC distribution boxes (ACDBs). The ministry said the measure is intended to ensure uniform identification and visibility of rooftop solar installations executed under the scheme across all states and union territories.

Logo placement

MNRE has prescribed specific locations and dimensions for logo placement on each component.

For solar PV modules, vendors must affix a 25 mm x 25 mm logo sticker on the front-facing surface of the module frame at the lower right-hand corner. At least one sticker is required for every kilowatt of installed capacity, with a minimum of one sticker on each module.

Solar inverters must carry a 50 mm x 50 mm logo sticker on the lower right corner of the front exterior surface of the inverter enclosure. The placement must not obstruct display panels or status indicators.

For AC distribution boxes, a 50 mm x 50 mm logo sticker must be fixed on the lower right corner of the front door or another accessible front surface of the enclosure.

Compliance requirements

The ministry has specified that all logo stickers must be made of durable, weather-resistant PVC capable of withstanding ultraviolet exposure, temperature fluctuations and other climatic conditions encountered at installation sites.

The guidelines also prohibit vendors from placing the stickers over original equipment manufacturer (OEM) nameplates, serial numbers, QR codes, safety labels, warranty information or technical specifications.

MNRE has clarified that the cost of procuring and affixing the stickers will be borne entirely by vendors and will not be eligible for central financial assistance or reimbursement under the scheme.

Monitoring

State implementing agencies and distribution companies (DISCOMs) will verify compliance during both commissioning and post-commissioning inspections.

According to the guidelines, failure to comply may attract penalties, including deregistration of vendors after due notice.

The ministry said the PMSG: MBY logo is available for download through the National Portal under the vendor section. It has also requested solar PV module and inverter manufacturers to incorporate the logo at the manufacturing stage to facilitate compliance.
