Indo Tech gets NTPC approval for 400 kV transformers for BESS projects
Indo Tech Transformers Limited has received approval from NTPC Limited to manufacture transformers in the 400 kV voltage class for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, expanding its manufacturing capability beyond its existing 220 kV range.
The company, a subsidiary of Shirdi Sai Electricals Limited, has also secured an order for two 90 MVA 400 kV transformers through a reputed engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor.
400 kV expansion
The NTPC approval extends Indo Tech Transformers’ product portfolio to the 400 kV voltage class, allowing the company to address requirements for higher-voltage transformers used in large-scale power infrastructure.
With the expanded capability, the company will be able to participate in projects across utility-scale power systems, renewable energy, transmission infrastructure and BESS. The addition of the 400 kV range also broadens its addressable market within the power transmission sector.
The order for two 90 MVA 400 kV transformers represents an early business opportunity following the expansion into the higher voltage class.
Indo Tech Transformers said the approval is expected to open access to higher-value business opportunities over the medium to long term as investment in transmission, renewable energy and energy storage infrastructure expands.
