ANDRITZ completes EPS works for NHPC’s 510 MW Teesta-V project
ANDRITZ has completed the Electrical Package System (EPS) works for NHPC Limited’s 510 MW Teesta-V Hydroelectric Project, achieving synchronisation of all three generating units with the national grid in July 2026.
The company stated that it was awarded the contract earlier in 2025 and completed the engineering, manufacturing and delivery of major high-voltage equipment within the contractual timeline of 12 months.
Project scope
The scope of work included the supply of a 400 kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), 400 kV XLPE cable system, 400 kV Pothead Yard and associated accessories, along with other Balance of Plant (BoP) electrical systems.
The Teesta-V Hydroelectric Project, located in Sikkim, has an installed capacity of 510 MW and is operated by NHPC Limited.
Execution timeline
According to ANDRITZ, installation of the 400 kV GIS was completed in 45 days, representing a 50% reduction from the planned installation schedule.
The company stated that the accelerated execution was achieved while maintaining project quality and safety standards. To meet the project’s timelines, additional manpower was deployed at site, higher-capacity cranes were mobilised and execution activities were optimised in coordination with NHPC.
The timely completion of the project was particularly important given the need to restore the generating units before the onset of the monsoon season to maximise renewable power generation.
Grid synchronisation
ANDRITZ noted that close coordination between the project teams of NHPC and the company enabled the successful synchronisation of all three units with the national grid in July 2026.
The project represents one of several efforts to restore and strengthen hydropower infrastructure, with utilities and equipment suppliers increasingly focusing on compressed execution timelines for critical power assets.
