Laser Power’s Rs 4.15 crore order marks India’s first AECC project
Laser Power & Infra Limited has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) for the supply and installation of High Temperature Low Sag (HTLS) conductors under a turnkey reconductoring project in the Nalagarh Electrical Division of Himachal Pradesh.
The order is valued at approximately Rs 4.15 crore and marks the company’s first commercial deployment of advanced conductor technology under its manufacturing agreement with TS Conductor Corp., USA, executed in March 2025.
Project details
The project involves replacing conventional transmission conductors with HTLS conductors to increase transmission capacity without modifying the existing transmission corridor.
Laser Power will deploy Aluminium Encapsulated Carbon Core Conductors (AECC) manufactured in India using TS Conductor’s proprietary pre-tensioned carbon fibre composite core technology. The conductors are designed to operate at higher temperatures while maintaining low thermal sag, enabling utilities to transmit more power using existing towers and rights-of-way.
According to the company, AECC conductors can deliver two to three times the power carrying capacity of conventional Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) conductors while reducing line losses.
Technology deployment
The Nalagarh project is expected to be the first commercial deployment in India of TS Conductor’s AECC technology, with the conductors being manufactured domestically for project execution.
Reconductoring has emerged as an alternative to building new transmission infrastructure, particularly in areas where acquiring additional right-of-way or replacing towers can be time-consuming and expensive. By upgrading conductors on existing lines, utilities can increase network capacity while minimising construction requirements.
The project also represents the commercialisation of Laser Power’s technology partnership with TS Conductor and reflects a broader trend towards the localisation of advanced transmission technologies for India’s electricity network.
Business pipeline
Laser Power stated that it has already prequalified and submitted bids for 18 transmission engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects of 66 kV and above involving reconductoring with advanced HTLS conductors.
The HPSEBL order marks the company’s first commercial project in this segment as utilities increasingly explore grid modernisation measures to accommodate rising electricity demand.
