IRCON JV wins Rs 763 crore smart grid project in Agartala
IRCON International Limited, in joint venture with M/s Badri Rai & Company (BRC), has secured a works contract worth Rs 763.10 crore, inclusive of 18% GST, from Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) for the development of smart grid infrastructure in Agartala.
The contract was awarded on June 22, 2026, and involves the implementation of a comprehensive smart grid network across the Agartala Municipal Area. The project is scheduled to be completed within 24 months from the date of award.
JV structure and contract value
Under the joint venture arrangement, Badri Rai & Company is the lead partner with a 74% share in the contract, corresponding to a value of Rs 564.69 crore. IRCON International Limited holds a 26% share, with its portion of the contract valued at Rs 198.40 crore.
The project has been awarded by Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited, a domestic entity. The company stated that the contract does not involve any related party transactions and that neither its promoter nor promoter group entities have any interest in the awarding authority.
Scope of work
The project includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply and installation of underground high-tension (HT) and low-tension (LT) power cable networks across the city.
The scope also covers deployment of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), Outage Management System (OMS), and Geographic Information System (GIS)-based mapping and integration. In addition, the project includes laying of underground Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) communication infrastructure and integration with third-party information technology applications such as billing systems, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Consumer Information Systems (CIS).
A Smart Grid Control Centre, including both primary and backup facilities, will be established as part of the project along with Distribution Network Automation (DNA) systems. The contract also includes facility management and operation and maintenance of the complete smart grid infrastructure.
Impact on power distribution
The project is aimed at modernising Agartala’s power distribution network through digital monitoring, automation and improved communication systems. Underground cabling and smart grid technologies are expected to improve network reliability, reduce technical losses and enhance outage management capabilities.
The project is part of broader efforts to strengthen power infrastructure in the northeastern region through advanced grid technologies and real-time system monitoring.
