AMPIN Energy Transition has commissioned a 60 MWp group captive open access solar project at Kantabanji in Odisha under the OREP-22 framework. The project supplies renewable power to commercial and industrial consumers and is connected to the grid through the 132 kV Kantabanji substation.

The company stated it executed the full project lifecycle in-house, including land acquisition, construction, and commissioning. The installation marks AMPIN’s entry into group captive open access solar in the state.

AMPIN is expanding its portfolio in Odisha with a planned capacity of 200 MWp. In addition to the commissioned 60 MWp, another 45 MWp is under construction, while 50 MWp remains available for new group captive partnerships. The state is expected to see higher electricity demand as industrial activity grows, with increasing uptake of renewable power.

The open access model has gained traction among commercial and industrial consumers following the introduction of the Green Energy Open Access Rules, 2022. These users procure a portion of their electricity directly from renewable sources using the existing transmission and distribution network.

Power from the Kantabanji project will be supplied to group captive partners including Bharti Airtel Limited, Jindal Stainless Limited, Emami Paper Mills Limited, and Quality CARE Hospitals. These entities will source around 50% of their electricity from the project. Under OREP-22 provisions, they are eligible for a 20-year waiver on transmission charges and electricity duty.

Separately, AMPIN Energy Transition and Jupiter International Limited recently launched a joint venture, AMPIN Solar One Private Limited, and inaugurated an integrated solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
